Image processing often are represented by low, mid and high level processes.  Low level processes includes operations such as image preprocessing to reduce noise, contrast enhancement, and image sharpening. It is characterized by the fact that inputs and outputs are images. Mid level processing involves tasks such as segmentation (partitioning an image into regions or objects), description of those segmented objects to represent them in an apropriate form for computer processing, and classification (recognition) of individual objects. This process is characterized by the fact that inputs generally are images, but the outputs are attributes extracted from those images (edges, contours, regions, set of pixels and the identity of individual objects). Finally, high level processing often called image analysis includes “making sense”, “understanding” operations of a set of detected objects, usually performing cognitive functions associated with vision. This talk describe briefly the essential concepts, applications and challenges related with image processing.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][eikra-vc-title style=”style2″ title=”PhD. By importing natural abilities from the human thinking into the design of decision-making- support computerized system, the new trend of intelligent systems has emerged, which can be understood as the synergetic integration of natural and artificial intelligence. As a matter of fact, while the natural intelligence provides creative, parallel and holistic thinking, the artificial intelligence is logic, accurate and tireless. To the light of such an integration, two concepts are important: controllability and interpretability.  The former means the ability of the computerized systems to be able to receive feedback and follow instructions from the user, while the latter refers to the communication between human and machine. A suitable alternative to involve these two concepts simultaneously -and then bridging the gap between the natural and artificial intelligence- is bringing together the machine learning (ML) and the data visualization (DataVis) fields.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]In this connection, this talk overviews some basics and open issues at the integration of machine learning and data visualization. As well, at the end of the talk, a bfief overview of the Smart Data Analysis System Group -in short, SDAS Research Group is presented. It was founded by Prof. Diego Peluffo in 2018. It is supported by expert and young researchers from several academic institutions from Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, and Spain. SDAS Research Group deals with data-analysis-related problems by providing software- and embedded-systems-driven solutions. The scope of its applications of interest encompasses: Time-varying, complex data analysis, formal methods for machine learning, sensor network, low-computational cost approaches for data analysis, and data visualization, among others. Also, SDAS Group offers services in data analysis, sensor networks and embedded systems design, computer-aided design of production plants, computerized medical diagnostic support systems, image processing, software development, electrical design, web design, domotic and biometric systems, and applied mathematics.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][eikra-vc-title style=”style2″ title=”PhD.
