The country was <strong>nominated in 26 categories<\/strong> and was <strong>awarded a record-breaking 14 prizes<\/strong>, making it the South American country with the most awards ever.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The WTAs are known as the <strong>\u201cOscars of Tourism\u201d<\/strong> and were established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries. Today, the brand is recognized globally as the hallmark of industry excellence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some Ecuador\u2019s winners in their respective categories are:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong>Quito\u2019s Mariscal Sucre International Airport<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cSouth America\u2019s Leading Airport\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Quito <\/strong>&#8211; \u201cSouth America\u2019s Leading Destination and \u201cSouth America\u2019s Leading Meetings and Conference Destination\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Galapagos Islands<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cSouth America\u2019s Leading Beach Destination\u201d and \u201cSouth America\u2019s Leading Boutique Cruise\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Guayaquil<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cSouth America\u2019s Leading Business Travel Destination\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ecuador will go on to compete in the <strong>World Travel Awards Global edition<\/strong>, which will take place in Vietnam on December 10, 2017.
